Last Saturday, when the footers were poured, there was a line
of concrete trucks down Rue Rivage (my street), taking turns coming down my
driveway. When they were all done, there were some significant ruts in the
drive near the top. A dual-wheeled pickup tried to avoid the ruts and got
stuck. After he was pulled out, the road was a bit of a hash at that section.
We were driving through that section rather quickly to avoid being stuck.
Unbeknownst to me, Kim Adams, the man who cleared the lot and built the driveway,
came by yesterday afternoon late and repaired the driveway. He flattened it
out and put down some limestone and slag concrete (the washout from concrete
trucks after they've delivered their load). I came through around 8:30 p.m.
to turn on the water (see first picture, above). It was dark and I was going
quickly to avoid getting stuck at the damaged section. I wound up stuck fast
up to my axels in what looked and felt like wet concrete. Yuck!!
An hour and a half later, the AAA sent a truck to winch me out. I was under
the truck cleaning with a bright light and a hose for almost an hour. What
a mess. It was very cold and I was wet and miserable. I then had to go back
to work and work until 5:00 a.m. What a night.
To top it off, Mr. Adams had already turned on the hose, so I didn't have
to go down there at all that night.
The driveway has since been repaired again. A picture of that is posted with the pictures from February 12, 2004.
